Side chair
Bermuda; 1720–50
Bermuda cedar (microanalysis)
Bequest of Mrs. Francis B. Crowninshield 1958.0140.005

The use of Bermuda cedar and particular design features, including raised pad feet on large incised discs, helps identify this chair as made in Bermuda. Working mainly in the island’s shipyards, Bermudian woodworkers produced furniture as an ancillary trade to shipbuilding.
